We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.
The Role
A Research Technician post is available as part of a programme of work funded by Cancer Research UK to investigate the biology of tumour-associated neutrophils in the hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tumour microenvironment. The post would be suited to a recent graduate at BSc or Masters level who wants to pursue their career in cancer immunology.
The project will use a variety of approaches including multi-omics, high performance imaging and experimental modelling (in vitro and in vivo) to determine phenotypes and functions of neutrophils in HCC tumours from clinical and experimental sources. You will work in the internationally renowned Newcastle Fibrosis Research Group under the supervision of Prof Derek Mann and Dr Jack Leslie and in close collaboration with colleagues based at the CRUK Beatson Institute at Glasgow.
The aim of the programme is to advance recent work from the team describing approaches by which tumour neutrophils can be therapeutically manipulated to enhance immunotherapy.
The post is full-time, fixed-term for 1 year with the opportunity to extend.
Informal enquiries regarding the post may be made to Prof Derek Mann (derek.mann@newcastle.ac.uk).
