LSE Fellow in Philosophy

Salary from £39,313 to £47,148 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £50,614 pa inclusive of London allowance

This is a fixed term appointment for 24 months commencing from September 2023.

The Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method is committed to doing excellent research and teaching in philosophy in a manner that is continuous with the social and natural sciences and is socially relevant. It is also committed to creating an inclusive environment for philosophical debate that engages with a wide range of perspectives. It seeks to appoint a two-year LSE Fellow who will, in a manner consistent with these commitments, contribute to the intellectual life of the Department and the School by delivering excellent teaching at both undergraduate and master’s level in the Philosophy of Economics (especially at the intersection of ethics, justice, and economics) and Philosophy, Politics and Economics. An ability to contribute more widely to teaching in the Department is also desirable. The post permits substantial time for research, and the post-holder will be expected to contribute to the research culture and intellectual life of the department in their areas of specialization.

Candidates should have

  • A completed PhD in Philosophy or another relevant discipline (or a PhD near completion) by the post start date;
  • A developing, high-quality research record in Philosophy relevant to the teaching areas listed above;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills;
  • A proven commitment to excellent teaching and to fostering a positive learning environment for students, as evidenced by feedback from students and colleagues.
  • The ability to work in close partnership with fellow teachers, including on a one-on-one basis and in small groups, and to provide effective support to students, as necessary
