Research Technician in Biomedical Sciences (0.5fte, fixed term for 2 years)

Ref: TC841

Starting salary from £23,715 per annum (pro rata), dependent on skills and experience, with an annual increment up to £27,131 per annum (pro rata)

The Nutrition and Preventive Medicine Department in Norwich Medical School is an dynamic team of approximately 30 members whose core research focus is examining the metabolism, efficacy and mechanisms of action of dietary flavonoids and n-3 fatty acids, with a particular focus on cardio-metabolic and cognitive health.

As a result of a recent project grant from the BBSRC we have a vacancy for a part-time (0.5fte) Research Technician to join our team. A degree in a relevant Biomedical Science would be an advantage but is not essential.

The main focus of the programme of work is a series of rodent behavioural studies which will examine the impact of select dietary constituents and HRT on cognitive performance in APOE3 and APOE4 mice, with the APOE4 allele being the most common genetic risk factor for dementia and age related cognitive decline in humans. The work is closely aligned with on-going human RCTs within the group. The appointed person will help run the animal trials and conduct a range of analyses on plasma and brain tissue to investigate underlying physiological and molecular mechanisms of action. The nature of the role will require some flexibility to work outside normal working hours. It is also expected that the successful candidate will support other ongoing projects in the group as needed.
