Salary: £68,176 - £81,687 dependent upon qualifications and experience

About the role

This is an exciting new role at the University College. The Head of Research will work closely with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor to build and lead Research efforts and Knowledge Exchange efforts with the Head of Academic Enterprise and Engagement, to drive the number of bids, income, projects and outputs across our academic and clinical areas. They will also lead or co-lead on infrastructure development, planning, reporting, budgeting and academic staff RKE development. Developing a research culture within the academic schools and clinics will be key to our success. They will review and update policies and procedures for good research governance, ethics and integrity. They will develop, within our academic framework, initiatives that promote open research, equality, diversity and inclusion in research.

Supporting our current and future researchers in their professional development and career aspirations is key. Our research must be conducted in an ethical and lawful manner and to the highest standards of rigour and integrity. You will be at the heart of the delivery of our research strategy, therefore we are looking for an experienced, creative and enthusiastic individual to join our team, with a track record of successfully supporting academics in RKE activity whilst building the infrastructure around them to enable this.

About the person

We are seeking candidates with excellent organisational and communication skills to work confidently and assertively with a range of internal and external stakeholders. You will have experience in strategic leadership at a senior university level together with excellent managerial skills. You will need negotiating and influencing skills to achieve successful outcomes for our developing RKE portfolio and the ability to respond in an agile manner to external opportunities. You will have significant professional services experience and will ideally have worked closely with Dean/PVC/DVC level staff. As a member of the Senior Management Group, having a broader experience of higher education and university structures would also be advantageous.
