As Associate Professor in Computer Science for Health you will actively contribute to the research strategy and activities within the Centre for Computational Science and Mathematical Modelling, providing strategic direction, academic leadership and management of research.
You will be responsible for commissioning and delivering impactful, trans-disciplinary research in the application of computer and data science techniques for remote and preventative healthcare, working in partnership with the university’s healthcare research centres. You will take the lead in promoting and disseminating high-quality research outputs, attend and present research at relevant conferences, give invited lectures, chair sessions and sit on conference organising committees. You will lead major funding bids and secure external research funding.
You will take an active lead in the research centre’s strategy and agenda, producing research with a demonstrable contribution to society. You will be a key part of leading the research culture and environment of the university group and supervise research fellows/assistants, doctoral students, masters’ students and support staff. You will act as director of studies to doctoral students, and assess progress reviews and PhD examinations.
For the academic aspect of the role, up to 40% of the role will be teaching and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students within the field, and contributing to teaching and learning across the group by being responsible for development and delivery of teaching. To ensure that students have an effective learning experience by providing quality academic guidance and advice and where appropriate reflect critically on teaching practice, implement improvements, disseminate good practice, contribute to quality monitoring and professional accreditation process.
A PhD or equivalent in a relevant area of research (or relevant discipline).
You will have an internationally recognised research profile of fundamental contributions to knowledge in the area of computer science, but will have experience of applying this knowledge to the health and wellbeing domain. You will have significant experience in securing research funding and delivering research projects, while establishing networks relevant to the centre’s strategy.
Through your trans-disciplinary practices, you will have the ability to inform and influence industry, business, health services and policy makers and articulate the value of your research.
In addition, there may be the opportunity to provide an accompanying fully-funded studentship (international fees and living stipend) for projects in the area of computer science for health.
