The Department of Chemistry offers world class education for undergraduate and postgraduate students, consistently being rated amongst the best in the UK. The Department accepts some 180 undergraduate students per year on the 4-year MChem course and around 100 postgraduate students per year on various taught and research postgraduate courses. The teaching is provided by about 90 academic staff, including a number of staff dedicated to practical teaching in the Chemistry Teaching Laboratory.

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Deputy Director of Studies to support the organisation and delivery of the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate courses.  They will take particular responsibility for postgraduate studies, including chairing the Graduate Studies Committee and working closely with Chemistry’s Directors of Graduate Studies. They will also lead and direct the Faculty Office team and will have oversight of its operations. Full details of the post can be found in the job description.

The post reports to the Associate Head of Department (Teaching) & Director of Studies.

The successful applicant will hold a doctorate in Chemistry and will have significant experience of teaching Chemistry at university level in a world class Chemistry department. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate effective organisational and management skills, the authority and influence to deliver change, and a commitment to enhancing the student experience in chemistry at Oxford.

This is a permanent position with an expected start date of October 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a full-time role but allows the post-holder to carry out additional teaching up to a maximum of six hours per week for which additional remuneration will be paid.

The post is located at the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, Department of Chemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford.
