MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK

The Cell Biology Division of the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), a research institute within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), invites applications for a tenure-track Group Leader position. We seek someone addressing fundamental questions in cell or tissue biology or developing methods relevant to these topics. The cell biology of cells in their native context is one area of particular interest, but the primary selection criteria are scientific excellence and potential for synergy with our existing research programmes. You should hold a PhD or other doctoral degree and have an excellent publication record with outstanding potential for independent research.

The position comes with funding sufficient to run a small-to-medium sized research group and free access to our many facilities. The LMB has an exceptional record of ground-breaking research and is housed in a modern building with outstanding facilities including those for light and electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, and electronic and mechanical workshops.

The salary for this post is £58,451 - £80,000 per annum commensurate with experience. The appointment will generally be at the tenure-track level. In exceptional circumstances, an appointment can be made at the tenured level of Programme Leader for those with substantial experience. This role qualifies for endorsement by UKRI for a UK Global Talent Visa, for which the successful applicant is likely to be eligible to apply.

The LMB is housed in a state-of-the-art building in Cambridge, UK. We are part of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, a vibrant scientific community that includes the University of Cambridge teaching hospitals, industry, and other research institutes. The LMB has an inclusive and collaborative working culture. You will be eligible to join our defined benefit pension scheme with an employer contribution of 16%, holiday entitlement of 40.5 days per annum (including bank holidays and privilege days) and a generous employee discount scheme. We are also committed to providing training and development opportunities including support towards role-related qualifications.

Informal enquiries can be made to Manu Hegde (rhegde@mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk), Head of Cell Biology.

Submissions should include a covering letter and full CV, an outline of current research interests (1 page) and a proposal for future research (up to 2 pages). Please include the names and addresses of three referees who have agreed to be contacted prior to interview.

Complete applications should be received no later than 1st November 2023.

We will select interview candidates in mid-November 2023, with the aim of holding interviews between 15th to 26th January 2024.
