The School of Built Environment, Engineering and Computing brings together a range of related sectors from built environment and construction; human and natural environments; engineering industries and computing, IT and digital industries in a dynamic and vibrant setting, with a rapidly growing student cohort from a range of backgrounds. The computer subject group is organised into three subgroups: computer science; cyber security and forensics data science. We want to enhance our academic and research position and environment in computer science, and as part of an investment programme in our academic leadership we are now seeking to appoint a Professor in Computer Science.

This postholder will be a professor in any field of computer science that complements our research in computing and will provide research leadership for our computing subject group. The post will work actively with the School’s Director of Research to provide leadership for our preparation for REF 2028.

Candidates will have a PhD in Computer Science with a significant and sustained track record of high-quality research publications which meet international standards of excellence and experience of leading academic staff and mentoring staff in relation to research funding, research collaborations, research impact generation and outputs.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to the development and direction of research in the School and will lead inter- and multi-disciplinary research in collaboration with colleagues in the School, within other Schools and external partners. You will be able to shape our research culture and build on interdisciplinary modes of practice. You should have experience of successful supervision and graduation of doctoral students and delivering teaching at all levels.

Requirements

  • An overview of your Personal Research plan for the next 5 years providing a clear link with the Research Agenda of the School of Built Environment Engineering and Computing (no more than one page A4)
