PhD Studentship (Special Scientist)
Are you an outstanding student interested to do a PhD in Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Robotics?
The international team with world-wide reputation, the Vision for Robotics Lab (www.v4rl.com) at the University of Cyprus lead by Prof. Dr. Margarita Chli, advertises one 4-year PhD Studentship with highly competitive salary available from November 2023.
In 2023, Prof. Chli won the prestigious ERC grant of almost €2.5 million to work on the project “SkEyes” to advance robotic perception for swarms of drones and as a result, to extend her research activity from the group from ETH Zurich Switzerland to the University of Cyprus, where these PhD Studentships will be hosted. Notably, the University of Cyprus is the top-ranking university of the island (with excellent quality of living), and amongst the top 100 best young universities in the world according to the Times Higher Education’s ‘THE Young University Rankings’ for universities less than 50 years standards across the EU. The successful candidates will interact with the team in ETH Zurich giving them exposure to one of the top universities in the world.
The lab
At V4RL we are proud to have achieved some of the most highly cited works in this field with key world-firsts, such as the first vision-based autonomous flight of a small helicopter, and the first demonstration of collaborative SLAM for small drones equipped with single cameras. With awards (e.g. by Amazon Research) and features in Reuters, CNN, the lab is a friendly and dynamic environment hosting international researchers at the Master, PhD, and postdoctoral level, running several projects with academic and industrial partners. The director of the lab, Prof. Chli, was featured in Robohub’s “25 women in Robotics you need to know about” and is regularly invited to give talks at top venues such TEDx, the World Economic Forum, and top conferences in Robotics, Machine Learning and Computer Vision.
