The School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) at NTU, Singapore, invites qualified academics with a strong creative practise to apply for a faculty position in Photography and Digital Imaging as Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure track).
a) The candidate will help set the direction of photography courses within the school’s BFA programs. The ideal candidate is expected to deliver studio photography courses that explore commercial, documentary and artistic image-making. A suitable candidate will have a strong portfolio demonstrating high impact and artistic quality. In keeping with the school’s interdisciplinary ethos, we will also welcome candidates with additional or major expertise in related disciplines such as communication design, print and social media content creation/curation, and/or emerging technologies such as computational imaging / AI-generative image creation, and creative coding (such as e.g., Python-scripting).
b) The candidate must demonstrate the potential to bring international visibility to the school through academic scholarship and/or creative activity. Tenure-track hires are expected to pursue activities that will position them as well-known experts in their field. The school expects a variety of service duties, including academic and career advising of undergraduate and graduate students; school and university committee service; and community engagement. The university provides excellent opportunities for funded faculty research and excellent facilities for studio production.
c) The candidate should have an understanding of and engagement with historical and contemporary issues and the liberal arts. Material, formal, and theoretical engagement with photography is informed by a broad knowledge of the history of the discipline and its contemporary practice. Creative practice and/or academic research that demonstrates transdisciplinary engagement such as with anthropology, ecology, and computer engineering among others, may be favourably considered.
d) The successful candidate will have a vibrant studio practice, the ability to teach a range of undergraduate and postgraduate classes, and an interest in curriculum development and leadership. Additional qualifications include:

The successful applicant will contribute to the School’s development of the undergraduate and graduate curricula as well as to research within the arts, design and media disciplines. Applicants should possess a strong background in professional photography and university-level teaching experience, including mentoring of final student practical projects or theses. A strong international reputation in the field, including a significant exhibition or publishing record is a priority. A terminal, MFA or PhD degree, is expected.
International applicants with a background in transdisciplinary and multicultural practice and research are encouraged. The candidate is expected to maintain an active research/creative production profile, as well as a commitment to teaching and service to the school. An open, collaborative approach, and willingness to work across areas and departments of the school and university, is a priority. This position will also involve administrative activities and committee participation. The salary and level of appointment offered will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
