The group of Dr Daniel Canniffe seeks a postdoctoral research scientist to join a team whose research is focussed on expanding the range of the solar spectrum that can be used for photosynthesis. We are looking for an experienced biochemist or molecular biologist to lead a BBSRC-funded project aimed at extending the natural low-energy limit of photosynthesis by modifying light-capturing pigment–protein complexes in phototrophic bacteria and characterising their structural and functional properties.
You should have a PhD degree in a relevant biological science and experience of genetic manipulation of bacteria and purification of membrane proteins. The post is available on a fixed term basis until November 2024, with the possibility of extension.
Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
The University has the right to close the vacancy early if it is deemed that there have been enough applications received.
