Lecturer in Quantum Information Science and Technologies

University of Bristol

Location: Bristol
Salary: £41,732 to £54,395 (Grade J / Grade K) per annum depending on experience
Hours: Full Time, Part Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 20th September 2023

The role

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding experimentalist or applied theorist in the field of quantum information science and technologies, in the broadest sense. The role will compliment or support the research activities and teaching in the University of Bristol’s School of Physics, and be a member of the Bristol Quantum Information Institute and the Quantum Engineering Technology Laboratories (QET Labs).

Currently, the Institute has research activity that includes quantum hardware development for sensing, communications and computation — such as with integrated quantum photonics, solid state quantum systems and cold & ultracold atomic physics — and theoretical quantum foundations. The institute’s training activities span undergraduate, postgraduate taught masters, PhD, and entrepreneurship. Bristol supports a growing ecosystem of regional quantum technology startup companies.

We wish to attract highly talented applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds and especially encourage applications from women and other groups that are under-represented in academic positions in our field. This post is full time, 1.0 FTE, but we welcome applications from those considering flexible working (whether full- or part-time).

What will you be doing?

The post-holder will be responsible for developing their own research programme, carry out appropriate administrative tasks and deliver excellence in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

You should apply if

You have a passion for developing and fostering innovative and impactful research in quantum information science or quantum technologies. You are demonstrating the self-motivation, initiative, and organizational skills required to carry out a successful research programme. You have a publication record in internationally recognized, peer-reviewed scientific journals commensurate with your career stage.
