The Role

The Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) is seeking a physical oceanographer with an emerging track record in high latitude / polar oceanography. The post is open-ended and part of SAMS’ long-term commitment to Polar Oceanography.

For the first three years the postholder will deliver an exciting programme of Arctic physical oceanography under projects already funded by UKRI-NERC and RCN (Research Council of Norway), which include fieldwork in Greenland and Svalbard.

The postholder will immediately join the BSc Marine Science undergraduate lecturing team to co-deliver and then lead an introduction to physics module for marine science.

After the initial three-year funded research programme, the postholder is fully expected to pursue promotion to Lecturer, and to seek research funding to establish themselves as a Principal Investigator at SAMS. SAMS is a partner of two UKRI-NERC Doctoral Training Partnerships into which the postholder may bid for PhD studentship funding.
