Middlesex University is an ambitious and progressive institution committed to empowering students and providing them with an educational experience that sets them up for success in life and work as we embark upon our 2031 University Strategy.
Our triple intensity approach is focussed around Education, Research & Knowledge Exchange and Engagement. Based in North London and building on a proud history, our vision is to be a truly 21st century Global University. The University has over 38,000 students studying in London and at campuses in Dubai and Mauritius and over 274,000 alumni. The University’s diversity of experience and vibrancy are signature strengths that underpin all we do.
We are now seeking to appoint an ambitious and innovative academic leader for our Department of Strategy, Leadership & Operations within the Faculty of Business and Law. This is a large and vibrant academic department encompassing learning, teaching, research and knowledge transfer in the fields HRM, Leadership, Business Management, Supply Chain, Logistics and our Executive MBA.
The Strategy, Leadership & Operations department is one of three departments in the Business School following a restructure in September 2023. With over 40 academic staff and 700 UK based students in this department’s portfolio, the Business School offers an exceptional range of programmes which expand out from London to regions such as Dubai and Mauritius.
We have ambitions to operate a truly global MBA, secure the prestigious AACSB accreditation and continue to build on our excellent research profile. In REF21 Business and Management was ranked No.1 nationally on GPA for Impact with 78.6% of its impact assessed at 4*, we were the strongest performing UOA at the University in terms of GPA performance with the largest number of staff returned. In the latest NSS, Middlesex rose to 25th nationally and we have a solid platform on which to build further.
The new Head of Department will form part of an ambitious Senior Leadership team driven to implement and realise the emerging vision of the Department and Faculty to ensure we deliver our ambitions around the triple intensity holistic strategy. The postholder will work with three other Heads of Department in the Faculty, two Deputy Deans, a Faculty Manager and the Dean to provide leadership and management in shaping the future of the Faculty.
This is an exciting time to be joining Middlesex with a strong leadership, clarity of focus and a determination to deliver positive change across the University. The Faculty of Business and Law is well placed with an excellent REF21 profile, a refreshing suite of programmes, significant industry connections and a dedicated team of staff.
The appointment will be at Associate Professor/ Professor level, depending on experience with the Head of Department position being initially for three years with a view to extend for a further three years. Following this the successful candidate will revert to the substantive post of Associate Professor/ Professor.
Applicants will be expected to demonstrate strong evidence of vision, innovation, leadership and managing academic staff in addition to a commitment to fostering and developing a collegial and collaborative academic environment within a department/ school that encourages academic staff to flourish.
