The Mary Lyon Centre at MRC Harwell (MLC) https://www.har.mrc.ac.uk/ is located in an expanding science and innovation park in Oxfordshire and is an internationally renowned centre at the forefront of genetics research. As the hub of the new National Mouse Genetics Network, the specialist facilities and capabilities of the MLC support a number of distinct research clusters spread across the UK to accelerate our understanding of human disease.

About the role

We are currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Molecular Biologist to join our team. As a Senior Molecular Biologist, you will be responsible for developing and implementing molecular biology techniques to support our research programs. Your role will involve designing and conducting experiments, analysing data, and presenting findings to internal and external stakeholders.

This position is based within established laboratories with significant genome engineering expertise, and you will manage a team of several graduate-level research assistants. You will be expected to review data for the validation of new alleles, analyse production data to improve lab processes, and present your findings in publications.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Design and execute experiments to support research programs
  • Develop and optimise molecular biology techniques, including PCR, cloning, and sequencing
  • Analyse data and interpret results to draw conclusions and make recommendations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of research goals
  • Present findings to internal and external stakeholders, including at scientific conferences and in publications
  • Mentor and train junior scientists in molecular biology techniques

About you

The ideal candidate will have:

  • PhD or equivalent in Biological Sciences or related field
  • Research experience involving the use of molecular biology
  • Strong background in molecular biology techniques, including PCR, cloning, and sequencing
  • Experience with gene-editing techniques, such as CRISPR/Cas9
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
