The University of Notre Dame, a Catholic research university that ranks in the top 20 among American colleges and universities, operates an academic center in the heart of Westminster to promote intellectual exchange through conferences, seminars and events, as well as its academic program for undergraduate students.
The University of Notre Dame’s London Undergraduate Program seeks an instructor able to teach an undergraduate Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering course designed to present fundamental concepts associated with systems of first-order linear constant-coefficient ordinary differential equations and the Laplace Transform, and to use the latter in the study of classical control theory.
Differential Equations, Vibrations and Control II
Contact time: Approximately 3 hours per teaching week x 14 weeks.
Deliver and assess this pre-existing class, which presents fundamental concepts associated with systems of first-order linear constant-coefficient ordinary differential equations and the Laplace Transform, and to use the latter in the study of classical control theory. Linear algebra is a critical tool in the solution of the systems of differential equations to be studied. The control portion of the course will address linear systems and focus primarily on analysis tools in both the time and frequency domains.
While the contents of the course is established, the instructor will be expected to prepare their own course materials and assessments, in line with their teaching approach.
Requirements: A Master’s degree and university teaching experience in a relevant subject area are required for this position, PhD strongly preferred. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK.
Teaching commitment:
The class will meet for 14 teaching weeks between January and early May, EITHER twice per week on Mondays and Wednesdays, OR twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Class meeting times are 75 minutes. In addition, instructors are expected to make themselves available for some additional office hours for their students, as well as completing all marking, class preparation, etc.
