SOAS continues to make a positive impact throughout the world through excellent research and teaching and through its profound engagement with Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The world needs universities that can serve as knowledge bases that speak to the immediate and future concerns of all of humanity and that engage with the major challenges of our time. SOAS's vision is to build a research-intensive university which is world-class but also responsive to the marginalised communities of our world. SOAS has a vibrant community, a global outlook, and a diverse student and staff body. In recent years, the School has achieved a complete financial turnaround, strengthened its academic leadership, invested significantly in people and facilities, and raised its global reputation. The School continues to grow and prosper.
SOAS is looking to recruit a Director of Global Learning and Teaching to support the new Provost in delivering SOAS’s Education Strategy. Reporting to the Provost, the new Director will provide leadership in Learning and Teaching across the School. Through their team, they will gather data to inform L&T-related decision-making and will bring consistency in practice across the School in approaches to pedagogy, outcomes and level of support. They will help increase SOAS’s ODL provision, continue the ongoing curriculum reform, and contribute towards a more sustainable business model for the School. The appointee will be expected to play a critical role in the School’s mission to develop new overseas partners.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise and a strong track-record of delivery in teaching and learning in a UK context. They will be experienced in leading projects in relevant areas such as curriculum design, portfolio review, online and distance learning, digital delivery, and partnership development. They will have led successful teams. They could come from an academic or professional services background. They must understand the nuts and bolts of TEF and NSS, and the mechanics of quality assurance, and know how to navigate different regulatory frameworks. The successful candidate must bring excellent analytical and influencing skills. They will be committed to SOAS’s highly distinctive vision as a research-intensive university with a strong international agenda and a clear regional lens through which to understand the world.
