University of Nottingham (UoN) invites applications for a Data Scientist to join our exciting collaboration with Strategic Innovation Limited (SI), an innovation consultancy with a passion for sustainability.
Based at SI’s office in Cambridge, you will lead the design and development of innovative and scalable approaches to AI-enabled consumer insight analysis. You will work within SI’s small, friendly team, who are enabling the transition to a more sustainable food system. Reporting to SI’s Head of Consumer Insights, you will have regular contact with the MD and wider SI team.
As an enthusiastic post-graduate, this is a career-development opportunity for you to manage a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) fully supported by a team of academic experts in behavioural analytics and sustainable entrepreneurship within the Nottingham University Business School’s two centres of excellence: N/LAB and the Haydn Green Institute.
This is a commercially strategic project that will enhance SI’s AI-assisted consumer insight capability. Through the KTP, you will be instrumental in delivering SI’s vision to transform the food production system by facilitating the operation of a novel, scalable business model.
You will have the opportunity to develop commercially viable, innovative solutions and communicate complex information to a variety of audiences, including SI’s existing and future client base. An awareness of commercial drivers and previous industrial experience is desirable, but not essential.
You should hold a post-graduate qualification (MSc/PhD) in a topic that has utilised a range of data modelling, statistical and/or computational methods. Experience of machine learning and consumer research is desirable. You should also have knowledge and experience of supervised machine learning, web scraping and Python and/or R.
As a people-orientated individual, you will have the ability to influence and engage collaboratively with SI and its stakeholders. As a proactive person, you will have the passion and desire to organise your own time effectively, have a flexible approach to prioritising work tasks and drive transformational change in the world.
Throughout the KTP, you will be fully supported and mentored to nurture your talent. You will have a budget of £2,000 pa for training and CPD, helping you develop your skillset and reach your personal and professional career goals.
UoN is committed to providing competitive employment packages whilst supporting the well-being of its staff to help them reach their full potential. As a UoN employee, you will have access to resources and a range of benefits and rewards, including staff discounts, travel schemes and an attractive pension scheme.
KTP is a UK Government scheme promoting sustained and mutually beneficial relationships between universities and industry. This is a fixed-term contract for 26 months. Successful completion of this project may lead to a permanent position for you with SI. Hours of work are full time (37.5 hours).
