Background
Applications are invited for a 26-month postdoctoral research position in the Theoretical Physics group at the University of Birmingham, working in the research team of Prof. Hannah Price.
Quantum simulation is a powerful way to study exotic quantum phenomena by simulating condensed-matter models, such as gauge fields and topological phases of matter, in highly-controllable platforms like ultracold atoms and other set-ups. The postdoctoral fellow will use analytical and computational techniques to study problems in quantum simulation with the aim of proposing future experiments and of exploring the interplay of gauge fields with quantum many-body effects. The position is funded for 26 months, with an ideal start-date in early 2024.
Role Summary
We seek an individual with a theoretical background primarily in one or more of: topological physics, ultracold atoms, quantum information or condensed matter. The successful candidate will develop the necessary theoretical models and perform computational calculations to understand various quantum-simulation schemes. This project involves a high degree of teamwork and interdisciplinary research, with possibilities to collaborate with experimental groups.
