The University of Glasgow, established in 1451, is a member of the UK's Russell Group of leading universities. The University is committed to enhancing its position as one of the world's great broad-based research-intensive universities.
In this role, you will contribute to the leadership of research in information engineering (including the broad field of electronics engineering, communication systems and artificial intelligence driven systems). You will undertake internationally leading research in the UK and in China that is self-sustaining, to develop and teach courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level, to provide academic leadership in both research and teaching and to participate in management and administration, as required, at School, College and University level.
The partnership between the University of Glasgow and the University of Electronic Science Technology in Chengdu (UESTC), China started in 2013. The Glasgow College UESTC is now responsible for the education of more than 1700 undergraduate students, growing to more than 2100 in the steady state and further expanding in a new location in Hainan. It is intended that the person appointed will build a research activity in Glasgow and play a leading role in research-led teaching. The Professor will have an outstanding track record of leadership of research in electronics, microelectronics, electronic systems, sensor systems, e-health, autonomous systems or artificial intelligence. This post is based at the main campus of the University of Glasgow, but it is a requirement of the post that the appointee will travel regularly to the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) in Chengdu as well as in Hainan, PR China. It is expected that the appointee will travel to UESTC destinations around 4-6 times per annum for visits typically of two weeks duration, but longer or more frequent visits may be required to meet operational demands, and in building and growing research links with UESTC.
