Our studio curriculum includes but is not limited to creative programming, digital media creation (animation, VR/AR, and time-based media), physical computing, and digital fabrication. Our seminars cover the theory, history and politics of emerging media.
IMA faculty teach a mix of introductory courses and advanced electives, as well as mentoring Seniors in their capstone seminar. Candidates should be prepared to teach What is New Media?, a required foundational course designed to teach students to research, think and write critically about some of the central debates in new media arts.

We seek candidates who have completed a Ph.D. in Media Studies or a closely related discipline. We are interested in a broad range of research interests and are looking for candidates that can collaborate with other faculty both within the IMA program and at NYU Shanghai across a variety of fields (social science, arts, humanities. Global China studies, computer and data science, etc…).
Teaching experience, a commitment to undergraduate education, and enthusiastic dedication to this rapidly evolving program are essential.
