We wish to recruit a Senior Lecturer in Global Maternal Health with a developing international research reputation to further development and implementation of the Women’s Health research agenda and portfolio at the University of Liverpool. This is a Senior Clinical Lecturer post based within the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, with a view to this individual commencing their appointment being physically based at the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Research Programme. If they are clinically active, then clinical duties would be at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, Blantyre, Malawi, and would be arranged based on the interests of the individual and departmental needs.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an internationally competitive programme of research in the broad area of Global Women’s Health. They would also be expected to provide an important leadership role alongside colleagues forming the Maternal Health Group at the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Research Programme. They will be expected to collaborate with the existing World Health Organisation initiatives, the National Institute for Health Research, the Medical Research Council and other Malawi, UK and international initiatives, supporting their successful implementation. They will also be encouraged to develop their own independent collaborations both nationally and internationally. They should uphold the aims of the National Institute for Health Research to translate research into benefit for patients and to drive innovation in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of maternal health complications, particularly relating to low resource settings, both globally and within the Merseyside region.

The post holder will be encouraged to focus their research on Malawi and its needs and those of other low- and middle-income settings but can also develop research in Liverpool. The Harris Wellbeing Research Centre provides an outstanding environment within which to develop new research programmes from Liverpool. In addition to the well-established partnership with the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Clinical Research Centre in Blantyre, Malawi, there are strong programmes such as Children Growing Up in Liverpool (C-GuLL).

We seek an individual with experience in maternal, foetal or perinatal health who has the ambition and vision to develop their research career in this area and to further develop as a recognised key player in this increasingly important area of research internationally.

The successful applicant will hold a substantive contract with the University of Liverpool based in the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The post holder will be line managed by Professor David Lissauer.

The University has the right to close the vacancy early if it is deemed that there have been enough applications received
