The Institute of Languages, Cultures and Societies is able to offer two fees-only bursaries at the ILCS for the PhD degree programme in the Literature and Culture of the German-speaking countries.
The scholarships, funded by the Friends of Germanic Studies at the ILCS and the Bithell Bequest, provide a fee waiver of up to 100% of the full-time or part-time Home tuition fee and are tenable for three years (full-time) or five years (part-time). They are open to any applicant interested in the field of German-language literary and cultural studies.
Applicants should have a good honours degree in German (Upper Second or First). They should apply for the PhD programme at ILCS in the first instance, having first discussed their research project with Professor Godela Weiss-Sussex. Once accepted onto the programme, they will be eligible for one of the studentships.
The awards are available to students starting in January 2024. Application opens on 1 October and closes on 30 November 2023. For more information on applying, please click the 'Apply' button, above.
