We are seeking an experienced and successful academic to co-direct and drive forward our research, innovation and pedagogy within the Institute for Design Informatics. You will have proven experience of grant capture and collaborating with a variety of partners, and a track record of working at the intersection of design, data and emerging technologies.
The Opportunity:
This is an opportunity to co-direct the Institute of Design Informatics, representing Edinburgh College of Art in this interdiscplinary space, which is co-directed with a colleague from the School of Informatics.
Data driven innovation is transforming society, the economy and design and creative processes. In the Institute for Design Informatics, we engage in creative and ethical design practice, creating experiences and prototyping systems that enable diverse communities and stakeholders to explore the implications of the data society, the digital economy, and the adoption of intelligent and autonomous technologies. Relevant “createch” technologies range from the internet of things, through blockchains, to robotics, data visualisation, interaction design, AI, XR, social computing, and Virtual Production.
We promote the critical and playful exploration of data as a material for design, participatory and speculative practices, and deep engagement with industry, public, non-profit and policy partners. We also place great emphasis on public engagement, benefitting from our own engagement facility, Inspace, through which we exhibit our research, host creatives-in-residence, host public and industry facing workshops, and deliver public talks. Over the last decade, the Institute has rapidly grown to a large interdisciplinary community of 100+ members, with a core group of 16 academic faculty.
