Looking for an opportunity to work at the interface between the aircraft industry and academia on digital design technology? In the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences we have an exciting opportunity to do just that in one of the UK’s most dynamic centres for engineering and environmental research and education.
Working with project partners AIRBUS, you will develop and contribute to new areas of research that will benefit society by advancing technologies that will underpin the design of the next generation of transport aircraft. Specifically, you will develop, test, and industrialise algorithms designed to optimise the geometrical layout of aircraft systems, subject to complex constraints.
You will join a growing team of engineers working in collaboration with AIRBUS on a range of digital design technologies, ranging from AI to novel geometry modelling techniques. While this position is initially for a fixed term period, depending on the success of the role, opportunities will be explored to extend it beyond this initial period.
To be successful you will need a track record of developing, testing, and delivering high quality code to tight deadlines. Ideally you will also have experience in numerical modelling and analysis, particularly in optimisation and/or machine learning. You will hold a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Aeronautical or Mechanical or Software Engineering, or in computer science/numerical analysis.

The Faculty offers exceptional research facilities in the areas of fluids, structures and their interactions, including a new world-class fluid dynamics facilities complex in the Boldrewood Engineering Campus, complete with a 138m towing tank.
