Technical Services are a large and diverse team of highly skilled technicians who ensure the optimal functioning of technical specialist spaces to deliver an exceptional student experience. We work in specialist laboratories, workshops, studios, resource centres and IT facilities; and are technical profession professionals play a key role supporting, guiding and advising students across our university from sciences, art, design and technology, through to sports, ceramics, nursing and physiotherapy.
This role is this in the Creative Makers team, who provide specialist technical support and technical training to the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the School of Arts and MFI. The team manages and supports a wide range of specialist equipment and workshops, whilst delivering an extensive technical skill taught provision to students. The team support a range of workshops and subject areas including quilting, digital embroidery, hand embroidery, free hand embroidery, tufting techniques, Cornelly machinery and hand embroidery techniques.
The successful candidate will be a proficient and a practising technical specialist in the area of embroidery. They should have a demonstrative ability to operate a wide range of specialist equipment safely and to a high standard, including skills in the use of embroidery techniques and software for the purposes of teaching and supporting the creation of embroidery, digital embroidery and embroidery machinery. A broad understanding of hand and digital knowledge and proven ability to industry standard. Proven skills within this area are essential and it would be desirable to have Adobe software skills. They will have a proven record of accomplishment in a similar environment or the owner of stablished practise. Additionally, they will have a positive and flexible approach to the work, be reliable and punctual as well as motivated and willing to understand all required training and allocated tasks. They will have the ability to work alongside others and be capable of working in a team, while striving to deliver excellent customer service. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to demonstrate ownership of personal workload is required.
