This new full time post is available immediately on a permanent basis. This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.
Summary of the role
The Centre for Environmental Mathematics is part of the Department of Earth and Environmental Science on the University of Exeter’s Penryn Campus. Our research is aligned closely with the department’s Centre for Geography and Environmental Science (CGES) and the Camborne School of Mines (CSM), and also the Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI), the Centre for Ecology and Conservation, Renewable Energy, and the European Centre for Environment and Human Health (ECEHH) – all groups that are based on the university’s Penryn Campus in Cornwall. We are associated with the university’s Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (IDSAI) and the newly launched Exeter Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ExCMS).
We apply mathematics, statistics and data science to solving major problems related to environmental change, biodiversity and evolution, energy security, and human health and well-being. We run a suite of Applied Data Science MSc programmes that interweave with our research, and interlink with application areas in Environment and Sustainability, Ecology and Evolution, and Renewable Energy.
Environmental statistics/data science is a growth priority for the university’s teaching and research strategies, and the wider UK and global education sector. Our thriving MSc and PhD student cohort, and the depth and spread of environmental statistics/data science projects at the university and in the department are evidence of this development.
We are seeking to appoint a new Senior Lecturer with a particular interest in applications of statistics and/or data science to topics in environmental and sustainability science (including geography, earth science, ecology and geoscience).
