Applications are invited for a PhD Scholarship at the University of Greenwich.
This multidisciplinary project, which spans psychology, linguistics and education, aims to advance understanding of (e.g., shared) cognitive processes and representations in language and mathematics. The structural priming literature (e.g., Scheepers et al., 2011) reveals compelling interactions between language and mathematics, such that structures in the former (e.g., sentence interpretation) are primed by the latter (e.g., solving mathematical equations) across cognitive domains. This project brings novel experimental evidence about such abstract representations (e.g., across language and mathematics) in emerging adulthood, language impairment and/or bi/multilingualism.
This project will be supervised by Dr Anuenue Baker-Kukona, Dr Alessandra Valentini and Prof María Arche in the Institute for Lifecourse Development and Institute for Inclusive Communities and Environments at the University of Greenwich. The successful applicant will conduct cross-domain (e.g., language-mathematics) structural priming experiments focused on language structure, development, impairment and/or bi/multilingualism. The successful applicant will have a strong background and clear interests in psychology, linguistics, education and/or a related subject area.
Interested applicants are encouraged to contact the supervisors to discuss this project (a.p.bakerkukona@greenwich.ac.uk; a.valentini@greenwich.ac.uk; and m.j.arche@greenwich.ac.uk).
