Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships in Journalism, Media and Communication

The School of Journalism, Media and Communication at The University of Sheffield welcomes applications from outstanding post-doctoral researchers to the 2024 round of the Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship Scheme.

The School of Journalism, Media and Communication is one of the major journalism research and teaching establishments in Europe. We are committed to a research and teaching programme that takes an increasingly interdisciplinary approach to the fields of journalism, politics, communication, and digital media. We have particular research strengths in the following areas:

  • Conflict, communication and peacebuilding
  • Digital media and journalism
  • Media freedom, journalism and civil society
  • Media law and policy
  • Media and gender
  • Mis/Disinformation
  • Political communication

We welcome Expressions of Interest from outstanding early career researchers, who meet the eligibility criteria of the Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship Scheme. Specifically, we seek candidates with an excellent academic record; a strong publications profile; and innovative and ambitious research ideas.

Expressions of Interest should consist of the following:

  1. Curriculum Vitae (max. 2 pages) – including academic qualifications (with degree outcomes specified), research record (publications, presentations, impact, research leadership if appropriate) and current salary;
  2. Outline research proposal (max. 2 pages) – indicating originality and contribution to the discipline, theoretical contexts, methods, resources and planned outputs;
  3. Research relevant to your proposal being carried out in the host department (max. 200 words) – highlight how your proposal aligns with departmental research interests and the interests of existing staff (see our staff profiles). Please identify a potential mentor.
  4. Eligibility statement (max. 200 words) – confirm on what basis you are eligible for the 2024 scheme.

Expressions of Interest should be sent as a single pdf document using this template to the Faculty of Social Sciences Research Hub (email fss-researchhub1@sheffield.ac.uk) by 4pm on Thursday 30 November 2023.

Selection decisions will be communicated to applicants by mid-December at the latest.

Selected candidates will be supported in developing their application for a Fellowship, leading up to the submission of applications to the Leverhulme Trust by the scheme deadline of 22 February 2024.
