We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Professional Services unit as a specialist technician in sport science. You will be primarily responsible for the smooth operation of our suite of sport science laboratories that include the Human Performance Laboratory, Exercise Physiology Laboratory and the Strength & Conditioning Suite.

You will work alongside our current sport science technician in supporting teaching, research and enterprise activities across all of the sport science facilities, including preparation of equipment and materials, demonstration of specialist hardware and software and maintaining stock levels.

You will have good knowledge and experience of a wide range of sport science specific equipment and techniques and the ability to clearly communicate complex procedure to a varied audience. You will also have excellent organisational and administration skills to enable the successful operation of the busy laboratory facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing a diverse range of technical specialist services for teaching, group study, research, demonstration, testing, fault diagnosis, consultancy, collaborations and research analysis
  • Producing and updating risk assessments and COSHH documentation and co-ordinating safe systems of working
  • Demonstrating the correct methods and techniques for a range of specialist equipment such as online gas analysis systems and 3D motion capture equipment to staff and students, either on a one to one or group basis
  • Being responsible for effective delivery of laboratory services to internal and external users
  • Forecasting, ordering and maintaining stock and hardware within agreed limits and in consultation with appropriate staff.
