Due to growth within The University of Gloucestershire school for Business, Computing and Social Sciences, we are looking for exceptional candidates to join a bank of Part Time Hourly Paid (PTHP) staff who can support the face-to-face delivery of our Undergraduate and Postgraduate criminology and policing programmes.

The school currently hosts lectures across all 3 campuses (Oxstalls in Gloucester, Francis Close Hall in Cheltenham and The Park in Cheltenham), however the majority of social science based teaching currently takes places at Francis Close Hall campus in Cheltenham. At Oxstalls we have our impressive state-of the-art facilities including collaborative lecture rooms, social learning spaces and breakout areas. There is also a Moot Court and simulation house. In Cheltenham at Francis Close Hall we have a crime scene house, crime flat and custody block.

To become part of our team you will be someone who can contribute to exceptional teaching and / or have industry-related experience in policing, NCA, prisons, probation, criminal justice, victim support, relevant NGOs or government departments etc. Experience in setting and marking assessments as well as knowledge of quantitative / qualitative research processes and the ability to supervise undergraduate and / or post graduate dissertations is desirable. You would be expected to work successfully with a range of staff and students across our course portfolio. We are looking for contributions to the teaching and assessment of areas such as:

  • Criminal Justice
  • Criminal Investigation
  • Restorative Justice
  • Public Protection and safeguarding
  • Criminological theory
  • Green criminology
  • Policing and law enforcement
  • Courts
  • Young offenders
  • Prisons and rehabilitation
  • Sociology
  • Research methods (quantitative and qualitative)
  • Globalisation and global crime

We pride ourselves on our support for students and aiding students in their employability and personal growth, through innovative pedagogy developments and real-world engagements in our programmes.

Desirable criteria:

  • PGCAP or equivalent  
  • Experience of developing / delivering teaching and learning sessions within an HE environment
  • Experience of marking assessments and supervising undergraduate dissertations
