The Philosophy Department at Durham University is a centre for world-leading research in a wide range of fields. It leads several interdisciplinary research centres, including the Centre for Humanities Engaging Science and Society (CHESS), the Durham Centre for Ancient and Medieval Philosophy, the Centre for the Ethics of Cultural Heritage and the Centre for the History of Medicine and Disease. The role is part of the project team on the Leverhulme funded project, Exploring Uncertainty and Risk in Contemporary Astrobiology. The project objective is to critically analyse both conceptual and methodological practices in astrobiology, particularly as regards attitudes to ‘risk’ and ‘reward’ in the face of great u! ncertaint y, in order to offer concrete proposals for better practice moving forward. This role is fixed term and part-time and therefore the salary is pro-rata to the salary shown.
A Senior Project Administrator is required for work on the Leverhulme sponsored project, Exploring Uncertainty and Risk in Contemporary Astrobiology. The project team consists of PI Prof Peter Vickers and co-I Dr Sean McMahon (Edinburgh). The successful candidate will provide high level specialist administrative support for the team, and they will also be required to maintain the project website, liaise with the funder and research office, maintain the project budget, arrange and coordinate project events and make travel arrangements on behalf of the project team.
