Location: Oxford
Salary: £36,024 to £44,263 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 20th November 2023
Closes: 27th November 2023
Job Ref: 169536

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Mathematical Immunology to join our research team headed by Prof Tim Elliott based in the Centre for Immuno-Oncology, Nuffield Department of Medicine.

Our research team aim to carrying out basic immunologic research focussed on better understanding of antigen processing and peptide-selection mechanisms and how the levels of tumour antigen processing and presentation impact on anti-tumour T cell responses. Therefore, we wish to recruit a post-doctoral researcher with exceptional initiative and experience in mechanistic mathematical modelling and antigen processing and presentation.

You will be responsible for playing a leading role in basic research aiming to investigate the relationship between antigen abundance, T cell avidity and T cell function in both preclinical models of cancer, and in human patient T cells. You will be expected to select and incorporate appropriate datasets to validate new computational algorithms for T cell immunogenicity and will be working synergistically with other members of the research team, sharing ideas, expertise and laboratory/research resources; and also interact effectively with collaborators both internally and at other institutions. You will be responsible for contributing to supervision of more junior lab members (including DPhil, MSc, FHS and visiting students), providing training in computational techniques and assisting them with data analysis, interpretation and presentation as appropriate.

It is essential that you hold a PhD (or close to completion) in mathematical immunology, together with pre- and/or postdoctoral research experience in antigen presentation, with proven research skills in this field. You should have the ability to take initiative in developing and troubleshooting new techniques and good organisational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 12 months and is funded by the EPSRC.

Only applications received before 12 midday on Monday 27 November 2023 will be considered. Please quote 169536 on all correspondence.
