The Technical University of Darmstadt invites applications for the position of a

University Professorship (W3) – “Design, Landscape Architecture and Urban Ecology”  

(Code. No. 644)

to begin as soon as possible.

The Professorship is assigned to the Department of Architecture and will be interacting closely with the Profes­sorships of Urban Design and Planning as well as Design and Urban Development.

We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated excellent achievements in professional practice, research and teaching in the internationally recognized fields of urban ecology and landscape architecture.

The professorship will be responsible for teaching and research in the field of urban ecology and landscape archi­tecture and is expected to make a forward-looking contribution in the field of climate protection and climate adaptation, biodiversity, green infrastructure, resilience and sustainable transformation of our cities. It is expect­ed that the candidate will shape the profile of the field and brings a scientific profile with high connectivity to research at FB 15 (Department of Architecture) and TU Darmstadt.

A university degree in one of the relevant fields (landscape planning, landscape architecture, urban planning or spatial planning) with proven qualification in a current and future research focus in urban ecology and land­scape architecture, with an outstanding PhD as well as additional scientific achievements are expected. Candi­dates without a PhD, who have demonstrated outstanding scientific and professional achievements equivalent to a PhD, will also be considered. Excellent skills in research and teaching is expected, as well as demonstrated experience in project implementation.

The professorship will participate in the teaching tasks of the Bachelor and Master programs of the Department of Architecture as well as interdepartmental programs. The candidate will be responsible for teaching landscape architectural design and urban ecological basics for sustainable urban development. In addition to scientific qual­ifications, this requires special didactic skills and the willingness to adapt to the specific focal points and teach­ing forms of a technically and creatively oriented course of study. In addition, the ability and willingness to cooperate in an interdisciplinary manner with the various disciplines at the Department of Architecture and at the TU Darmstadt and to participate in university self-administration are required.

As part of the Frankfurt-Rhine-Main metropolitan region, TU Darmstadt and its surroundings are characterized by an international, cosmopolitan climate with functional multilingualism at our university. Therefore, very good English and – after three years – good German language skills are expected.

The position is tenured with a remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications, follow­ing theGerman “W3 Besoldung” and subject to negotiations between the applicant and the university directorate. A comparable employment relationship is possible. Professors who are already employed as civil servants may continue to be employed as such. The regulations foremployment are specified under §§ 67 and 68 HessHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
