We are seeking two candidates to join our dynamic, hardworking, and committed team and be responsible for the day-to-day care and welfare of small rodent cancer models housed within the facility and help with maintaining a good standard of hygiene and checking licenced and environmental parameters are adhered to. We are open to those new to animal science right through to experienced junior animal technicians.
Within the Biological Resources Unit, we work as a team underpinned by our Core Values and alongside research groups to deliver award winning science. This close relationship allows our technicians to be an integral part of the discoveries and breakthroughs at the Institute and provides them unique opportunities to develop a wide range of skills and experiences.

The successful candidates will work with the 3R's ethos (for reproducible and ethical research, that has open, fair, and inclusive communication with focus on compassion and respect). As a part of our ongoing commitment to personal development IAT or other professional qualifications will be considered after a probation period has been completed.
We have a proactive approach to personal and team development and during the probation period a personal training programme designed with your line manager will be drawn up. Once probation has been completed, we will actively encourage further professional development and enrol technicians onto relevant courses such as those run by the Institute of Animal Technician (IAT) as well as encourage attendance at professionally relevant meetings and workshops. The successful candidate will also have access to a broad selection of staff benefits including discounts at a wide range of local and national businesses.
The unit operates a rota system to provide cover at weekends and Bank Holidays. The candidate will therefore be required to work outside of normal working hours.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment check, a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check, a security check and a standard Disclosure and Barring Service check.
