Burnham Lecturer (x4 posts)

Ministry of Defence

Enhance the future electrical engineering skills of the RAF.

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is a uniquely forward-thinking organisation in which to pursue your career. With responsibility for protecting the nation’s population, borders and assets, we are constantly preparing for whatever the future holds. This includes equipping our people with cutting-edge skills and knowledge, and it is here that you could play your part in maintaining our reputation for being one of the world’s best militaries.

We are currently looking for a number of Burnham Lecturers to join The Defence School of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering (DSEME), which sits within our Defence College of Technical Training at MOD Lyneham. Delivering subjects incorporating your key areas of expertise (be that mathematics, engineering theory, mechanical science, or electrical and electronic science), you will upskill highly-capable trainee Technicians and Supervisors from the Royal Air Force, seeing to it that they are equipped to not only operate in a complex combat scenario, but that they have the skills to adapt to emerging threats. With the aim of helping your trainees secure their Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering, you will assess their learning needs and develop a theoretical and practical curriculum in order to deliver the relevant Trade Group 5 initial and specialist trade training. This will include devising lesson plans, course resources and virtual learning content, and ensuring that your training areas are prepared for your planned teaching sessions.

This is an exceptional engineering training environment in which to pursue your career. To meet the demands of the role, you will therefore have an electrical specialisation, with a comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering management practices and trade policy. With the ability to adapt your lectures to students with varying degrees of knowledge (including those who have specific learning difficulties) you will have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and you will enjoy translating complex ideas for a variety of audiences. As you will be working with a range of colleagues (such as the Examinations Manager and the Training Coordinator), you will be a collaborative team player who is committed to developing others.

A suitable qualification will also be required. This could be one of the following: a degree; a Level 6 qualification in a STEM or Training and Education Subject; a Level 4 qualification underpinned by STEM teaching experience, or a teaching qualification that equates to level 5 (in which case you will agree to complete a teaching qualification within two academic years).

In turn, we can offer you a competitive benefits package that includes 25 days paid annual leave rising by 1 day per completed year of service to a maximum 30 days. Eight public holidays per year, plus Leave for HM The King's birthday   and a desirable pension scheme. With access to numerous discounts and free on-site gym and sports facilities, you will be encouraged to embrace ongoing learning and development opportunities so that your career keeps pace with your long-term goals. You will also be able to discuss alternative working patterns with your Line Manager, so that you can be sure of a great work-life balance.
