About us

The Department of Anthropology at UCL is a research-led department with an international reputation, offering innovative teaching programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The department is one of only a few broad-based anthropology departments in the UK comprising five sub-sections: Biological Anthropology, Social Anthropology, Material Culture, Medical Anthropology and Public Anthropology. There are over 120 staff in the department, many of whom are academics and researchers conducting fieldwork around the world as well as teaching our many students.

About the role

We are looking to appoint a Lecturer with a strong background in the anthropology of gender and sexuality to join our Social Anthropology section. This role-holder will conduct independent research. They will develop courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and will contribute to the core teaching on the MSc in Politics, Violence and Crime and/or MSc in Social Anthropology, as well as contributing to undergraduate core introductory modules and the supervision of research students.

About you

The successful candidate will hold a PhD or equivalent in Social Anthropology and have demonstrable ability to conduct original research which is reflected in the authorship of high-quality publications. The ideal candidate will have a well-conceived post-doctoral research project showing intellectual ambition. Specialisation in queer theory, decolonial theory, the anthropology of the Middle East, and political and legal anthropology would be desirable.
