We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate to join the Genomic & Environmental Medicine Section of the NHLI. There are two posts available.
The post-holder will develop and apply advanced and innovative statistical and programming methods to issues of statistical design and analysis with either a focus on methods and approaches for longitudinal cohorts or on adaptive clinical trial design, depending on the background and interests of the successful candidates.
The group has a long track record of leading population based and workforce based health surveys (including multicentre, international surveys that involve collaborations with low and middle income countries). The work examines the burden of, risk factors (including lifestyle, environmental and occupational) for and prognosis of poor respiratory health and disease (for example low lung function, asthma, COPD, occupational lung disease and tuberculosis). The group has extensive experience using more widely available research databases (for example UK Biobank). The second role will focus on Bayesian adaptive designs for cluster / complex trials.
Duties and responsibilities
You will interact daily with a team of researchers and students involved in a variety of epidemiological investigation. The projects offer wide scope for methods and statistical approaches.
Your duties will include planning and performing independent research with the appropriate supervision and present your findings to colleagues and at conferences, as well as contributing to the preparation of grant requests, publications to peer review journals and reports to research sponsors. You will be expected to direct, when required, the work of smaller research teams including undergraduate and postgraduate students; mentor and train less experienced members of the group in learning and adapting new methods.
This is a full-time, fixed-term on-site position available for 48 months. You will be based at Brompton Campus.
*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £40,694 - £43,888 per annum.
