Project details

This group is extremely successful in advancing knowledge in marketing through high quality academic and applied research with an international perspective.

Key areas of expertise include: consumer behaviour (consumer culture and identity, cross-cultural consumer research, digital consumer research), transformative services (services management, service innovation and adoption) and marketing strategy (eg international marketing strategy, innovation, sustainability etc).

Research priority areas

Within the Marketing academic group we are especially keen to receive PhD research proposals in the following areas:

  • Consumer behaviour, cross-cultural consumer behaviour, digital consumer behaviour (eg social media, mobile apps), customer engagement, consumer identity.
  • Marketing strategy, innovation, international marketing strategy, services marketing.
  • Branding, brand image, brand management, and international brand issues and sustainability.

Alternatively, you can develop your research proposal around one of the proposed PhD project ideas in the Marketing group.

Whether you choose a research priority area or a proposed research project, your research proposal needs to be aligned with Loughborough Business School’s Progress with Purpose vision and strategy that focuses on broader societal issues and enables inclusive, interdisciplinary and purpose-led research and innovation.

Entry requirements

At least a 2:1 honours degree (or international equivalent) with a UK master's degree (with average programme mark of no less than 65%) or international equivalent.

English language requirements

IELTS band 7.0 or above with not less than 7.0 in each component.

Funding

The studentship is for 3 years and provides a minimum tax free stipend of £18,622 per annum for the duration of the studentship plus University tuition fees (both UK and International).

Please note that studentships will be awarded on a competitive basis to applicants who have applied within the School. Funding decisions will not be confirmed until early 2024.

  2. Put together your research proposal (between 2500 to 3000 words including references)
  3. Share your research proposal with the identified supervisor(s) and confirm they are willing to be named in support of your application. You are also encouraged to ask for feedback to develop your research proposal.
  4. Submit your formal application online. Under programme name, select 'Business School'. Please quote the advertised reference number 'LB24-MaR' in your application. Please upload with your application a research proposal, copies of your transcripts/certificates, English language certificate and contact details of two academic references, one of which must be from your most recent degree.

Your application will be assessed against the selection criteria as well as alignment with the School's Progress with Purpose strategy.
