This is a unique opportunity to join our Surrey Innovation District team and lead the programme management activities of the Games and Innovation Nexus (GAIN) project, which is the £1.5 million Research England’s Connecting Capability Fund (CCF) awarded to the University of Surrey, in parentship with the University of Warwick and University for the Creative Arts. It aims to design planned interventions designed to create customised knowledge transfer and innovation infrastructure, systems and processes that stimulate our existing innovation ecosystems in ways which are compatible with, and attractive to, the UK Games and Creative Technology industry. 

The GAIN programme activities are part of a wider suite of programmes that the University of Surrey delivers to support commercialisation, industry partnerships and knowledge exchange. It supports the Gaming and Createch industry, which is an important part of the local innovation ecosystem and provides an important facilitation opportunity to link our Innovation activities to the Warwick Innovation District gaming cluster, supporting businesses in both regions to access university research collaborations, Createch facilities and student / graduate skills.  

The role

  • This is a full time, fixed term role, completing in November 2025
  • This role will coordinate all the activity across the programme partners and manage the relationship with the funder, UKRI. 
  • It will be responsible for ensuring delivery and reporting against programme KPIs and maintaining auditable accounts of expenditure.
  • It will require excellent programme management skills including strategic thinking, planning, resource management, targeted communication, project implementation, and impact monitoring and evaluation. 
  • The role holder will line manage a University of Surrey Knowledge Exchange (KE) Manager and coordinate the activities of the KE Managers at University of the Creative Arts and University of Warwick.
  • It will report to the Director Surrey Innovation District and lead the management of the programme Steering Committee, ensuring representation by academic, industry and civic stakeholders. 

About you

To be successful in this role you will need to evidence the following;

  • Excellent project management skills, with a proven ability to produce plans using project management tools and to plan and prioritise the work of others.
  • Experience of engaging with a range of public and private stakeholders. Experience of programme management in a University setting is desirable.
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail, including proven competence as a completer-finisher meeting deadlines.
  • Experience of producing funding plans and knowledge of financial aspects of project management.
  • Experience of working in the relevant industry is desirable (e.g. games, media and music, AI, blockchain and Metaverse)
