This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

Summary of the role

Looking for a new opportunity?  As a member of the prestigious Russell Group of research-intensive universities and in the top 150 universities in the world, your procurement skills, sustainability and commercial knowledge could empower you to make a significant impact by managing the procurement of various goods and services in the Soft Facilities Management category.  This category provides support spanning a variety of areas including Catering & Retail, Cleaning, Furniture, Apparel, Waste, Vehicles, Plant & Transport, Residences, Events, Security, Sports and Grounds. You may also be called upon to support spend in other categories.

We are seeking an experienced, creative and solution driven Senior Procurement Sustainability Officer, who will be responsible for helping to drive value from procurement of goods and services whilst realising the university’s sustainability ambitions and collaborating with key stakeholders (internal and external) to develop sustainable, procurement initiatives. Sustainability training will be given.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in sustainability and have strong procurement experience, preferably including public sector procurement experience. This is an exciting opportunity to influence and deliver sustainable procurement solutions for our bought goods and services.

The successful candidate will have experience in:

  • Sourcing solutions minimising the environmental impact of the University’s supply chain whilst realising value for money.
  • Support the procurement team to achieve its savings target.
  • Sourcing solutions that deliver social value benefits.
  • Developing procurement strategies within Procurement Regulations that promote and realise new sustainability ideas and solutions.
  • Rolling out sustainability KPIs for procurement that demonstrate added value and promote better sustainable decisions in operational purchasing and practices.
  • Collaborative working to develop mechanisms and scorecards to track supplier performance related to sustainability and promote continuous improvement.
  • Lead sustainability reviews to discuss best practices and issues and to ultimately improve supplier performance and strengthen business partnerships
  • Support the Soft FM Category Manager (Sustainability) to act as key contact for sustainability initiatives and influence key stakeholders
  • Communicate and present to senior stakeholders on procurement strategy, planning and execution of end-to-end procurement projects for relevant spend categories.

In addition, the SPO Sustainability role in Soft FM will have experience in:

  • Developing procurement strategies derived from spend data analysis & research and using where appropriate, frameworks to source goods & services within a dynamic & agile environment.
