The Opportunity:

The Institute for Academic Development (IAD) are looking for a suitably experienced individual to join our Learning and Teaching team. The post holder will contribute to a range of the IAD’s academic development, teaching and scholarly activities. They will also support colleagues across the Schools and Colleges of the University to enhance local learning and teaching provision as well as support strategic University-wide learning and teaching priorities.

The Institute for Academic Development is located in Edinburgh’s beautiful Old Town. We are a medium-sized support service department of 45–50 staff based in a modern University complex, just off Holyrood Road. We are just a 5-10 minute walk from the central Waverley train station and Princes Street area, thus have excellent bus and train link access. 

This post is full-time (35 hours per week) however, we are open to considering part-time working arrangements/ job share arrangements and / or flexible working patterns. IAD adopts a hybrid working approach and follows the University’s Hybrid Working Policy in which there are expectations you will live within a commutable distance of the University and that you will be required to have a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • PhD – Essential; Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy - Desirable
  • Demonstrable experience of higher education learning and teaching systems, strategies, and practices.
  • A strong understanding of relevant research literature.
  • Demonstrable expertise in planning and progressing academic development or teaching activities using own initiative and independent judgement without close supervision. 
  • Capacity to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Strong formal and informal presentation skills.
