We are looking for an individual with expertise in research programme management and governance to join the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Research Support Service in this brand-new key leadership position.
As Chief Operating Officer, you'll be responsible for leading all aspects of operational delivery for the Research Support Service (RSS) Hub and the role will have significant external focus at a regional and national level.
Under the overall direction of the Directors, and working with the Business and Operations Manager you will ensure robust operating systems and processes that enable high quality methodological input to research, capacity building, outreach activities, and training, maximising quality and efficiency.
In this role, you'll be based at our Newcastle Upon Tyne campus that has fantastic transport links and is in the heart of the city centre.
You will provide overall operational leadership of the RSS Hub, leading a core team including a dedicated Business and Operations Manager and Senior Administrator.
You will report to the RSS Directors and will be part of the RSS Leadership Team. You will work closely with the RSS Specialist Centre for Public Health COO and Newcastle CTU's Head of Operations, and leadership teams across the RSS nationally; you will also interact with the Head of Faculty Operations.
You'll be joining a team of around 100 staff, based locally and in partner and stakeholder organisations regionally and nationally.

We are an organisation that champions collaboration and in this role, you will ensure strong and effective co-ordination of the wider RSS team at Newcastle and across partner organisations, working closely with external partners including research centres and universities, government and public organisations, the funding body (NIHR/DHSC) and RSS Hubs and Centres nationally.
