The Faculty of Philosophy wishes to appoint an Assistant Professor in Philosophy with effect from 1st September 2024.
The area of specialization is open. More generally we welcome candidates with teaching strengths that will widen or consolidate our curriculum. We expect candidates to have, or to be willing to acquire, the ability to teach in other areas outside their specialization. However, candidates must have the capability and willingness to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in at least two of the following areas: philosophical logic; metaphysics; ethics; aesthetics, history of 19th or 20th century philosophy.
Candidates will be expected to be engaged in high-level research, to publish in their specialist field, to seek opportunities to win external funding for their research, to teach and examine undergraduates, and to supervise and examine MPhil and PhD postgraduate work.
It is expected that candidates will have a PhD in Philosophy (or a related area) by the time of the application deadline. Candidates will have an outstanding record of excellence in research, publication and teaching in Philosophy, relative to their stage of career.
The position is based in the Faculty of Philosophy, in central Cambridge. It is permanent, subject to the satisfactory completion of an initial probationary period.
