THE PROJECT

The University of Essex, in partnership with Apsley Paper Trail, offers an exciting opportunity to a graduate with the relevant skills and knowledge to develop the capability to measure and enhance the impact of the Frogmore Mill visitor experience, enabling our visitors to engage with the Mill's sustainability heritage, which will encourage them to adopt long-lasting behaviour change with regards to the environment and climate change.

This post is fixed term for 30 months and is based at The Apsley Paper Trail offices in Hertfordshire.  

DUTIES OF THE POST

The duties of the post will include:

  • Conduct literature reviews and summarise findings for a non-academic audience.
  • Implement evidence-based strategies to improve the museum visitor experience.
  • Provide input in the development of a visitor database.
  • Lead quantitative and qualitative research activities with guidance from the academic team.
  • Set up ongoing evaluation processes to support research and innovation activities.
  • Manage activities, stakeholders and relationship building across diverse groups.
  • Project administration, data management, and reporting duties.
  • Support co-design and digital media for research and innovation activities.
  • Disseminate findings in scientific articles and conferences. 

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • A Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline and/or a PhD (or nearing completion).
  • Experience of research dissemination e.g., publications, conference presentations.
  • Experience conducting quantitative and/or qualitative research.
  • Demonstration of the ability to work as an independent researcher and to be self-motivated.
  • Experience of working in a busy project or research environment, towards goals shared across diverse groups of colleagues and partners.
  • Good research skills, including study design and analysis of quantitative and/or qualitative data.
  • Ability to prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and to write briefing reports for a non-academic audience.
  • Project management skills.
  • Awareness and interest in the UK heritage sector, sustainable behaviour, and environmental education.
  • A genuine interest in working in the 3rd sector, social enterprises, societal impact and community interest organisations.
  • Good relationship building and stakeholder management skills and experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in written work, in particular to share scientific findings to non-academic audiences.
  • Skilled in independently using software packages for statistical analyses (e.g. SPSS, R, Python).
  • Excellent time keeping, budget management and project management skills.
  • Ability to contribute effectively to collaborative decision making.
  • Digital media production, design thinking, co-design, and/or service design skills and experience.
  • Skilled at group facilitation e.g. meetings, co-design activities, workshops.
  • Experience of report writing, project coordination, and data management.
  • Ability to learn about new techniques and methods for research and innovation.
