Summary of the role

The post of Lecturer in Offshore Wind technology will contribute to extending the research profile of Engineering at Exeter, particularly in areas related or complementary to Offshore Renewable Energy.

The University welcomes applications which build on Exeter’s internationally recognised research strengths in this area and face our research and teaching needs within the department. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Coupled Hydrodynamic Modelling
  • Operation & Maintenance
  • Risk & Reliability
  • Floating Offshore Wind

The position of Lecturer in Offshore Wind Technology will be based in the Renewable Energy group led by Prof Philipp Thies. The group is part of the Engineering department, led by Professor Ion Sucala (www.exeter.ac.uk/engineering). Engineering currently has over 90 academic staff across our Exeter (Streatham) and Cornwall (Penryn) campuses. Academics in the Offshore Renewable Energy group have particular expertise in Risk & Reliability Engineering, Component testing, Applied Computational Modelling, Floating Wind, Dynamic Power cables, Metocean measurements and forecasting.

Main duties

  • To fulfil research, teaching and administration duties as a Lecturer in Offshore Wind technology.
  • To support the Engineering Department in extending the profile of this research area by attracting and supervising exceptional postdoctoral researchers and postgraduate research students, contributing towards the winning of significant research income, and by undertaking elements of the day-to-day running of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • To collaborate with colleagues both within the Faculty and the University of Exeter as a whole to develop and support the groups research programmes and other research programmes.
  • To contribute to the general operation of the faculty as a member of its academic team.

About you

The successful applicant will have an independent research programme and possess a PhD or equivalent in Engineering, Hydrodynamics, Aerodynamics or other relevant subject. You will also have a track record of excellent publications in recognised journals, potential to attract research funding and enthusiasm, knowledge, and ability to teach modules in Offshore Wind and Hydrodynamics and more widely, as required.
