The Faculty
The Faculty of Arts is one of the University’s flagship faculties and one of the finest humanities faculties in the region and internationally. It was founded in 1912, when the University opened, and it has been a focus of academic life on campus ever since, building on its traditions to meet successive educational and intellectual challenges.
It is ranked 1st in Asia and 18th in the world for Arts and Humanities in the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities 2023, the only one Asian University to have made it into the top 30 this year among 250 universities worldwide. It is also ranked 1st in Asia and Hong Kong in Arts and Humanities in the QS World University Subject Rankings 2023, and 4th in Asia and 1st in Hong Kong in Arts and Humanities in the Times Higher Education World University Subject Rankings 2024. The QS World University Subject Rankings 2023 places the Linguistics, Modern Languages, and English Language and Literature subjects among the top 25 worldwide. The Faculty of Arts’ presence amongst the best institutions in the world is evidence of its exceptional record in teaching and research.
The Dean
The Dean will provide academic and strategic leadership within the Faculty, with a view to further strengthening its position as one of the leading Arts faculties internationally. He/She will also be responsible for enhancing the close ties that exist with other academic and professional organizations outside the University, locally, regionally and internationally.
The Dean is expected to maintain a research agenda and have distinguished academic credentials and international recognition for his/her achievements in research, scholarship and teaching. He/She should have a proven record of high-level administrative and leadership experience in a university setting, including management of human and financial resources, budgeting and alumni networking. The Dean must demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and possess strong communication and networking skills to build and nurture internal and external stakeholders to the benefit of the Faculty and the University.
