Tenure-Track Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Real Estate

Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Real Estate in the Department of Real Estate and Construction (Ref.: 524438), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract, subject to satisfactory performance. Exceptionally outstanding candidates may be considered for appointment on tenure terms. 

The Department of Real Estate and Construction (REC) enjoys a world-class reputation for its research and teaching in real estate and construction management. It runs long-established, highly successful, and competitive professional education programmes, with alumni holding senior positions in the public and private sectors. Its academic staff has a broad spectrum of expertise, covering virtually every aspect of construction, land, real estate, and facility and asset management. As an integral part of the Faculty of Architecture, REC contributes to the world ranking of 14th under the QS University Subject Rankings 2021 in Built Environment. In terms of research quality, the department is ranked 1st in the Built Environment panel of the Hong Kong Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2020. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Real Estate, Economics, Finance, Marketing, or a related field. They should have a track record or potential to conduct high-quality scholarly research in the interdisciplinary fields of real estate such as real estate development, private and public investment, sustainability and Environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG), PropTech (e.g., sharing economy, smart real estate, and FinTech), and global real estate markets. They should be able to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in real estate and engage with students, faculty, and practitioners in addressing real-world challenges. Applicants for the Professor position should possess strong academic credentials, including international recognition, leadership capabilities, and a track record of competitive grants. 

The appointee is expected to strengthen REC’s international profile, bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry practice, and provide leadership and services to the Department and Faculty. Commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and real-world impact would be an advantage. They should show a capacity to secure research funding, publish influential papers in leading academic journals, and exhibit leadership in academic circles. Collaborative and impactful research opportunities are available through HKUrbanLabs (https://www.arch.hku.hk/about/hkurbanlab-intro/), an intellectual platform that brings together leading scholars, researchers, and practitioners to advance knowledge related to the built environment and beyond. They can even establish their own labs under the umbrella in the future.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
