The role

We are delighted to invite applications for the post of Director of the Centre for Academic Child Health (CACH), which is a leading centre for inter-disciplinary research related to child health. CACH is a unique collaboration between the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. In the last 5 years CACH researchers have raised £51 million in research funds and published over 550 papers. Researchers in CACH have expertise in quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research and have a strong track record of co-producing research with stakeholders and involving children and families from diverse backgrounds. CACH also has a broad teaching portfolio including two intercalated iBSc courses (Child Health Research, Global Health), substantial input to the MBChB curriculum in Bristol Medical School (e.g. Paediatrics and Evidence-Based Medicine elements) and supervision of undergraduate, masters, and PhD student dissertations.

Please note that we are open to applications from clinical leaders with the relevant academic experience who may be coming from a setting other than that of a medical consultant in one of our local NHS Trusts, however the appointment process in such scenarios will need to factor in extra time to establish any necessary and appropriate joint working relationship with your clinical setting or clinical employer.  (Joint-appointment working protocols for clinical academics are already in place for Consultant clinicians with our partner NHS Trusts UHBW and NBT)

What will you be doing?

The postholder will be expected to develop their own research programme, take a leading role in CACH teaching programmes, and to lead and facilitate collaborative research bids and interdisciplinary research teams.  The CACH Director will advocate for Child Health research within the University and with external stakeholders including NHS Trusts, other health providers, third sector agencies and family groups.

You should apply if

The post holder will be a consultant paediatrician or an equivalent senior health professional with expertise in a Child Health related topic, with extensive academic experience, which includes leading research programmes, high-level contributions in teaching and related leadership and administration.
