About the Role

Northumbria University is a research-intensive University that unlocks potential for all, changing lives regionally, nationally and internationally. The University has an excellent reputation in research and education as reflected through prestigious accolades, including being named Times Higher University of the Year for 2022, and both Daily Mail Research University and Modern University of the Year for 2023. Northumbria is one of the most ambitious universities in the UK, with a turnover of over £350m, approximately 35,000 students, over 3,000 staff and has campuses in both Newcastle and London. As an anchor institution, Northumbria University aims to play a leading role in the economic and social transformation of the North East, working closely with the other universities in the region, as well as city and regional public, private and charitable stakeholders.

At a time of significant change, challenge and opportunity in the higher education sector, the University is seeking to appoint a new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive and based in Newcastle upon Tyne, the CFO is a member of the University’s Executive team, providing commercially-focused strategic leadership of Finance and Campus Services and playing a key role in shaping and delivering the University’s plans to deliver its strategy for 2030.

Our new CFO will bring demonstrable leadership ability and experience in a large, complex and dynamic organisation. Comfortable operating at a senior leadership level, the successful candidate will be ambitious, with a track record of success in driving and improving financial performance.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the leadership of a bold, progressive and ambitious university that delivers real-world impact and to ensure its future position at a time of significant change in higher education. If you have the right experience, skills and track record of success and share Northumbria’s drive and ambition, the University would be delighted to hear from you.
